No,I am not complaining.
But.
I love my work now, especially after today because I was given very positiveee review from my colleague  during the mid -internship review.Yippie!

Yes,I am pretty sure that a geoscientist is a purrfect profession for me.Give me more time, then I can be as good as every one else in my department.

Its quite an interesting and challenging job.The department I would like to join in the future is seismic processing dept.Seismic is actually the study of propagation of wave in the earth subsurface.

As everyone knows, when a wave(sound wave) travels in a medium, its properties are altered because the earth layers has different densities due to the pore spaces between rocks.Rocks also contains different level of hardness, which what we called acoustic impedence, which is simple the multiplication of velocity of wave in the rock to its density. That is one main reason why sound wave properties is altered when it propagates in the earth.

So,a seismic processor will process the data in order to "clean out" the unwanted altered seismic waves. These "altered seismic wave" is called a noise.Noise literally means something that is unwanted.

Basically, that is a bit about the scope of my job,and it not only consist of removing this noise problems but also many other processes which are very complex and require a lot of intuitive problem solving and also lengthy mathematical equations.Rote learning will not work,so to understand the job,I have to get the overview of everything about seismic.

Thats a bit of introduction to this work.Hopefully I can fulfill this dream, though not easy, but I am the type of person who likes challenges in life.

The loss of loved ones

June 6th, 2008 by douglasjokjau

Everytime I am on the net,I always visit youtube to watch any good video available. Just now I stumbled into some videos that pay tributes the loss of loved ones posted from people all over the world.

Most of the videos are made by families and friends of the deceased, and these videos touch my heart. Most of the deceased are very young people, whose life cut short at very young age. There was this girl, Elizabeth, born in the year 1990 died 2 years back.

I mean, she was just a teenager, she had a long life ahead of her.But destiny called her for the perpetual rest.

I know that the majority of us out there do not think so much about death, whether it would be our own demise or anyone we are close with. We feel that we have years ahead of us, so much time left to fulfill all the desire in the heart.

But the deceased young souls could be one of us. They have people who loved them and remember them as great persons.

It makes me feel fortunate that everyone in my family is well.Thank God for the blessings in life that He gives me.

So, appreciate the presence of people around you.No one is spared from death, someone we love will leave in the future, leave us for eternity.

Young souls like us have a lot of things to appreciate.Let go of hatred and spread the love to your loved ones especially your parents while they are still alive

As for me,I am not afraid of death.I live life with out too much expectations, and I live dangerously.

And I wont neglect the presence of loved ones.

Rest in piece to all the young people whose precious life cut short.

Gotta werk!

June 5th, 2008 by douglasjokjau

Hey,I’ve assigned a new category, "Work". Yeah, welcome to the unstoppable working world!

Well, it is not really all work, but at least I got the taste of working life.

Basically,I am under the summer Shell’s internship programme as a seismic processor in the EPA-T-DGP team. I am already halfway in the program, but due to hectic schedule, I can’t squeeze time to blog. Its already 2 am in the morning now, but I take this opportunity to blog about werk.
………………………………………………………………………………………..
…………………………………………….???

Ummm…actually….

I do not know what to talk about,its…just..all…about work.

Oh man.

Ok,maybe I would like to highlight some of the benefits that I receive while working there. There’s a gym, massage chairs, free drinks, free utensils..Wait,aren’t these benefits available in most companies nowadays? Those are nothing so special, then.

Seriously, working life is not really something to be anticipated. Anyone of you who are currently pursuing your education,I bet most of you are looking forward to get a job after graduation. Most of you give the same answer to the reasoning, which is "tired of studying". Hey,remember, most of your supposedly study time is allocated solely for studying, but I believe most of you spend time having fun with friends, being rebellious and all.

Working life comes with more heavy duty, big responsibility and couple that with family related issues, financial issues(always the no 1 problem in head) etc, then you will wish that you could go back to your growing years.

I am starting to get the sense of working life. What ever I am experiencing now is just a small stepping stone before making what I called "The Great Leap" into real working life.

Having to wake up early, stay in the office for hours, sit still in the cubicle while doing work in front of the computer etc.Is this what you(yes, you, the one who is soo excited to work) going to do,everyday, for the rest of your life.Hmmm

I wish I can freeze the time and stay in the present reality forever in a still frame. But  life has to go on.

To everyone who is preparing for the 1st proper job, buckle up,because it will be a bumpy ride.

To everyone who is already working, do not be jealous of us students, you used to be a student, and you had your fun already!

In the meantime,I better go search any Koh Samui related tourism website, because that is where my next destination for my semester break getaway! Chow!

I just found out that there are some people out there who actually read my blog. I am currently using the free version of the Friendster blog service, so I am unable to know the persons who would read my blog.

All this time, I thought that no one would bother to read my entries because I think that there is nothing much interesting. I thought that people would just read an overview of my entries, and move on to the next page, and then click the x button on my page.

I mean, considering that my blog does not contain any picture, no interesting applications or sidebars and quite unkempt. There is nothing that is appealing or catches anyone attention. Heck, I do not even change the font and its size! Haha

Well, for you guys who read my blog, thank you, at least you got to know snippets of my life. You guys dig my predisposition to excessively whining almost about everything? And bear with such rotten attitude of mine?Haha..ok.

I know I am no Mr Kenny Sia or Ms Cheeserland. My blog is basically something I do to fill up my free time, and also to express my feelings at the time(chee..so…cliche) yeah bla bla bla. I realized that the sentiment of my blog entries has changed tremendously. When the blog first started, the entries were filled with angst and melancholic sentiment. Then it gradually cooled down, the tone of entries began to sound mild and less political.

Nowadays,I blog about something that everyone can relate to, like about studies, the daily life as a student, about having fun, etc.

Oh boy, this blog has been going on for about 2 years now and counting.I still want to keep blogging because it is such a fun thing to do.To you, thank you for reading my blog.Ok, one of these days, I would consider of adding more content to my blog, and the first thing is: upload pictures.

Peace!

Home

May 4th, 2008 by douglasjokjau

Im finally HOME! After crossing 4 different states, 2 methods of transportation and a gruelling  10 hours journey, I made it home. What a relief. Everything at home is so cool. In fact, I am surfing the net using wireless network which was set up by my tech- crazed brother. Yeah, we Sarawakians live on tree, have pet monkeys and wild boar AND wireless 24 hours a day Streamyx connection at home.Haha. Oh, we also own at least an Astro decoder each to get in touch of whatever happen in the outside world.AND the Maxis 3G coverage is excellent in my room. Coolness! Oh how I wish I have the same thing back in Penang.

The thing that I miss the most is definately mom’s simple cooking, because my family is simple, no less, no more than what we needed. This afternoon, I had a simple lunch consists of ikan masin, thousand years egg and sausage. I love this sort of food.

But things remain the same at home, the lawn of the house looks exactly the same like I the day I left to Penang. The exact same plants still stand at their respective places, of course they grow in larger size. The house wall was never repainted, it look exactly the way it was.Haha. The same thing inside the house, except that we bought a new washing machine.

This is the opportunity to escape the hectic pace of life in Penang.Things can get too overwhelming at times, that it makes your head almost burst. But, I will be here just for 9 weeks, and then I will be going back.
Hmm I better be using the time I have wisely.

Peace!

This is spooky

April 21st, 2008 by douglasjokjau

I have been staying off campus for about a year now. I love my new place, its really decent, no noisy students, very secure and most importantly, NO RESTRICTIONS.

Nothing unusual happened before, until two days ago. I was about to sleep and all of the sudden, I felt like someone or some being is watching me. Well, I know this entry sounds so cliche, as if I got nothing else to talk about, but I tell you, it was so spooky, I never get this kind of feeling before.

I usually spot long hairs on the floor, but none of the people in my house sported long hair, even spookier.I mean I do invite friends to come over the house, but only once in a bluemoon, and these long piece of hairs keep showing on the floor everyday.

Hmmm..does anyone knows any poltergeist?

World Music Festival.

On the 2nd till - 4th May, the 2nd World Music Festival will be held in the Botanical Garden, Penang. The similar(but more grand and well-known) music festival is held yearly at Kuching’s Kampung Budaya.

I was at the organizer’s booth yesterday at Queensbay Mall, and the booth attendants were kind enough to provide me the necessary information regarding this year event. The ticket is doensnt come that cheap, it is RM50 per person for one day entry, but fortunately they are giving away 20% discount for students. So, I am paying RM40, which is a reasonable price, considering it is once in a year event.

Heck, I never attended the Rainforest Music Festival in Kuching, although it has been yearly organized in the past 10 years(and the fact that I am a Sarawakian, and I have the privilage to easily access the location due to its proximity).

BUT, the problem is, I am not going to attend this World Music Festival this year event, because I have to go back to Sarawak to do my summer internship programme, which falls a day after the finale day. Darn!

Last year, I heard some hearsay about some music event was about to held in Penang, and I didnt bother to dig more information about it. Then a friend of mine told me that a music festival that is similar to the one in Sarawak will be held in Penang for 3 days. Imagine my excitement! But I did not manage to attend last year event due to some inevitable circumstances. It was that stupid test I had to sit on the weekday and also transportation problem. Plus, the weather was not very welcoming, it was raining cats and dogs the whole month of July. I read in the newspaper a week after the event that it rained the whole 3 days.

Sigh, I miss this great opportunity of attending this great great event. For anyone of you who are interested to go, visit this link http://www.penangworldmusicfestival.com/. That is if you are happen to be around Penang from 2nd - 4th May, you got nothing better to do, you have RM150 to splurge and if you are a music enthusiast.

I know you are going to have a good time, because even I will not be attending, I have this feeling that it is going to be awesome. Oh oo.. Im feeling the excitement,I can only imagine.

Sigh, sigh , sigh…

Gurney

April 13th, 2008 by douglasjokjau

I admit it,after 2 years staying here in Penang, I never get bored of going to Gurney Drive,it is such a good place to wind up. For a non-Penangnites who are not familiar with this place, let me enlighten you guys a bit.

Gurney Drive is one of the most overated tourist destinations in Penang. Its a seaside promenada, which I would describe as Penang’s toned- down version of Clarke Quay in Singapore. Ok, comparing these two places is like comparing apple and orange, but you get the idea.

Anyway,I was at Gurney Drive last week, and an international indoor sporting event was taking place at one of the posh hotels there. It was even aired on an international sports area. I was just taking a stroll, while taking a puff. Something is really bothering me. The seaside was polluted with floating trashes and that is just not right.

I think someone need to come up with something to clear the unfortunate sight. What happened to Penang’s tagline " Pearl Of The Orient"?

Its unfortunate, because I frequented this place , everytime I go there, its just getting filled up with heaps of garbage.

But, this problem is prevalent in our region. It happen everywhere in Malaysia. Back in my hometown, we have the dirtiest beach in the whole state of Sarawak.

Shame, when we will learn about cleanliness? Its not just about being hygenic, but it is also a representation of our culture attachment. We wouldnt want outsiders to say Malaysia=Dirty. I read many complaints from tourists that they didnt get to see what Malaysia Tourism has been promoting.

Anyway, this Gurney Drive will always remain my no. 1 destination in Penang. Its a gorgeous place(-ve the garbage la) and I like it going there.Overrated? but still a good place to hang out.

Oh darn, while I was there the other day,I threw my cig butt somewhere. I’ve been desensitized. Too often I see people throwing things aroud.Ok, Ill try not to do that again.

Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back

March 25th, 2008 by douglasjokjau

This is a really old movie, its sort of the continuation from my all - time favourite funny movie "Clerks" by Kevin Smith. Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back(JSBS) is a movie about two best friends Jay and Silent Bob, both played the role of junkies in the "Clerks" movie. But this time, both of them play the major role and the movie focused on some misfits adventure they encountered.

Its a good movie. I would rate it 3.5/5. But, nothing compares to Clerks, I never get tired of it.(But Clerks 2 - sux)

I watched this movie for the 1st time many years back, but I guess at the time, I didnt bother to appreciate the toilet jokes in the movie. I easily laughed when someone make a joke, no matter if it sounds lame or totally outrageous. JSBSB is one of the movies that made me laughed, a good one especially after a hectic day.

Totally recommended if adult - orientated content doens’t offend you.
